Sema Yüce commemorated 2025-06-17 17:26:32   AGIRÎ - Sema Yüce, who set her body on fire in Çanakkale Prison on 21 March 1998 in protest against the oppression against Kurds and died in hospital on 17 June, was commemorated at her grave on the 27th anniversary of her death.    Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) provincial and district organisations, his family and many citizens attended the commemoration held at his grave in Qerxelixa Jorê village in Dutax (Tutak) district of his hometown Agirî.   'SHE WAS THE HERO OF HER TIME'   The crowd first visited Sema Yüce's mother Zennure Yüce in the house where she was born. Then they went to the grave of Sema Yüce in the village cemetery. Mother Zennure Yüce could not attend the ceremony at the grave due to health problems.  Sema Yüce's brother Fecri Yüce made a short statement at the grave and said, "The struggle for freedom and equality has been going on for many years. It has passed through very important periods. Each period created its own pioneer and hero. Sema friend was also one of the heroes of her period."   'CARRIER OF THE IDEA OF JIN JIYAN AZADI'   Stating that Sema Yüce had an important place in Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's idea of "Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)", Yüce said, "Sema friend left a great burden of struggle on the shoulders of her family and comrades. On the 27th anniversary of the martyrdom of Sema friend, we commemorate both Sema friend and all comrades who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom."   After the speeches, prayers were recited for those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy.
